Where it StartedLa Ishá Skin Care was originally formulated for the semi-arid climate of Denver, Colorado. Considered high desert, Denver is located at the foot of the Rocky Mountains on the high plains and is a sunny, dry place exposed to more than 300 days of sunshine a year: more hours of sun than either Miami or San Diego. The challenge of keeping our own skin supple and hydrated in Denver inspired us to create a skincare line that could be effective in spite of the harsh climate. At an altitude of 5,280 feet above sea level, the air in Denver is thin with very low levels of humidity. This coupled with extreme and sudden fluctuations in temperature can wreak havoc on the skin and cause premature aging. Natural vs. SyntheticWe are also concerned about the growing evidence of a connection between cosmetics and cancer. We believe that looking our best and safeguarding our health should not be mutually exclusive pursuits. The current list of synthetic ingredients manufacturers add to mainstream personal care products includes toxic, carcinogenic and endocrine-disrupting materials. Many manufacturers use them because synthetic ingredients are inexpensive, stable, and have a long shelf life. Although the majority of these products appear safe in the short run, the results from long-term use could be harmful or even deadly.1 The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health has reported that nearly 900 of all the chemicals used in cosmetics to date are toxic - although other watch groups attack that figure as being far too conservative. It is thought that the average woman absorbs approximately 5 lbs. of toxic material every year from the cosmetics she applies to her face and body.2 La Ishá believes that health and beauty should go hand-in-hand.
